| CFW Tutorial |
Hi there !
I am the blog's owner , Denny AKA asa92 or Theasa92 , and I thought what is the best way to start a blog about the PS3 jailbreaking news ? and I said to myself start with a Tutorial , every body loves'em , right ?
(this tutorial is one of the most simple and detailed tutorials out there , if not the BEST ! so please spread it and don't forget to mention the source )
so lets start .
First question : why the hell would I install a CFW (custom firmware) on my PS3 ?
well lot's of reasons :
1. hombrew ( apps wrote by unofficial developers )
2. games ... no not legal , I mean backing up you're precious Blu-ray games instead of scratching them and end up buying a new one .
3. we will get back Linux support soon .
Second question : what will I need to do this ?
1. PS3 console ( obviously ! )
2. USB stick that is formatted to FAT32 ( the PS3 won't read anything but FAT32 )
3. patience and patience
4. and you need internet access ( WARNING! ONLINE GAMING WITH A BACKED-UP GAME MIGHT BE VERY RISKY , PLAY ON YOU'RE OWN RESPONSIBILITY ! )
5. You're on you're own ... it means am not responsible for any damage you do to you're PS3 during this process ( bricking you're PS3 ) This tutorial is 100% working and safe , but if you do something wrong ... say goodbye to you're console .
6. download this stuff :
Kmeaw's firmware ( AKA : CFW )
If you're on Geohot or any other firmware that isn't the official 3.55 FW then please download the official firmware with the right region of you're console and get back on track with this tutorial .
now let's download the back-up managers which will run you're backed-up games , there's three main managers I'll keep the links as updated as I can .
first : MulitMan (1.14.00) .
Base version . (small size package about 6 MB)
Full version . (medium size package about 30 MB)
Mega version ( for the people who likes to show off , about 220 MB )
MultiMan (1.14.01) .
Base version only .
MultiMan (1.14.01) .
Base version only .
second : Gaia manager (2.07) use Gaia BDRip.pkg as I will only tell you how to make a blu-ray game backup if you want to FTP games from a PC , look somewhere else .
third : Rogero manager (V7.9c) .
After this load of talking let's starting acting !
IF YOU HAVE THE OFFICIAL 3.55 FIRMWARE ON YOU'RE PS3 THEN PRESS CTRL+F AND TYPE 02 then press enter , once there close the search bar .
(attention please , remove anything on the USB stick before doing this)
installing the 3.55 OFW
firstly let's start with the official FW if you haven't installed it yet then do that simply by puting the PS3UPDAT.pup
in this path
x:\PS3\UPDATE\
X represents you're USB letter , i.e ( D , C , K .. etc ... )
{01}if you're PS3 is in a cranky mode and won't let you update , then turn it off , start it and let it stay on stand by , then press the power button and stay pressing till it re-shuts down , now redo the same trick turn it on with you're finger stuck on the power button this time you will hear a single peep , forget about the first single peep , it will re-peep double peeps , now you've hit the hot spot leave the power button and let it start , if it shuts down , please try again you must have failed at some point .
follow the on-screen instructions , firstly connect the USB cable and press the PS button scroll down to the last option ( number 6 ) and update it , choose the USB update method of course .
Here's a video from YouTube explaining how to do it if you're missing something .
it will restart and give you the stand by mode , now unplug the USB and fire up you're PS3 , if it's all good , on to the next step !
{02} extract the Kmeaw.rar , and if it's named anything but PS3UPDAT.pup then rename it to that .
if you have anything on the USB stick remove it , and put the renamed .pup file in this path
x:\PS3\UPDATE\
x represents you're USB letter , i.e ( D , C , K .. etc ... )
for the guys who haven't skipped the last step ( installing the official 3.55 ) please remove the first old pup and put the new one .
now go into the recovery menu again if you're PS3 is still in that cranky mode , and update it via USB from there , If you missed the step explaining how to get into the recovery menu just press CTRL+F
and type in 01 then close the search bar and read on .
welcome to the CFW XMB , now just unpack the manager of you're choice , Gaia has a little tiny problem , which is why I HATE it , it will only read from one directory and that directory is named in the name of the .pkg file , so choose what you prefer , better not install gaia at all but that's just my point of view .
remove anything on you're USB stick from the update files , and put the manager.PKG on the root of the USB ( the USB itself no need for paths this time )
put the USB in the PS3 and go to install packages and install the manager of you're choice ( you can install the 3 managers no damage will be done )
sign into PSN now so that the system won't hang when we start copying the games
if you don't care about the covers , stay offline .
you must have at least 20 GB empty space or just an external plugged into the PS3 .
start the manager ( make sure there's no disks in you're BD drive or you're console will hang , after opening the manager and gone through the 3 legal screens , put in a game disk and it will appear on you're screen , now hit the COPY button , the copy button is different in each manager so read it then hit it !
now the PS3 is copying the BD game onto the external/internal HDD .
now the PS3 will download the game cover .
put all you're games and copy them as I explained above , now to make sure you're back-ups are running , put a game disk ( for example little big planet 1 ) and press the load button in you're manager on another game ( lets say metal gear solid ) now load the game I guess it won't ask about direct boot but just in case don't direct boot press no so it lets you go into the XMB and look , you have put the LBP disk but instead it's MGS4 :) happy gaming .
man that was alot of work ! so please appreciate my work and mention the source of this tutorial .
